What can you do with clothing you no longer use, want, or need?

Local and direct action is always the best way to support our community

Every single piece goes a long way, especially in areas with such volatile weather.

Below is a short list of resources / organization in the community doing brilliant work to support our neighbors and friends:

  • On The Rise, Cambridge
    • Serving women and gender-diverse folks unhoused folks in the area. They frequently update their list of in-kind needs every season. Check out their website, make an appointment, and get your extras into the hands of people that need them.
  • MAAP (Material Aid and Advocacy Program)
    • Addresses basic and immediate needs of the local unhoused community, helping them through difficult transitions.
    • Their list of requests is HERE. Drop-Off on Tuesday & Thursday between 8 - 5:30p
  • The Spot
    • The Spot is a volunteer run service that provides clothing, infant supplies, hygiene products and some materials assistance to Cambridge families that are most in-need. Folks can shop for free amongst donations. More details, and contact information HERE.
  • Cradles to Crayons
    • 2 in 5 children in the United States do not have adequate clothing for everyday needs. Cradles to Crayons works nationally to combat this.  Their focus is on youth sizes 0 - 20. Check out their current Massachusetts initiative: Gear Up for Winter, distributing warm coats and essentials to children in the area.
  • Second Chances
    • Second Chances reuses and recycles clothing, shoes, and accessories so that homeless and lower-income people feel confident and valued as they take their first steps toward brighter futures and, as a community, we can minimize the amount of apparel going into local landfills. Local donations go a long way. If you are outside of the Greater Boston Area - don't be shy. Fire up those twitter fingers and find a local church, temple, and/or warming center that would happily accept your clean and lightly used items. Typically, a quick search on Yelp! will do the trick.
