Job Description:
This is a “front-of-house” customer-facing role (with some “back of house” tasks) in our vibrant Cambridge community and is responsible for providing an exceptional in-store experience for all who enter to foster connections, conversion, and sales revenue to help us sustain our small business.
Responsibilities:
- Customer service and sales - greeting, cultivating trust, breaking the ice, and selling. This includes taking items out of peoples hands, asking open ended questions, and creating a positive atmosphere.
- Keep the shop looking SHARP and you love doing it! This includes tidying, organizing, folding, buttoning, dusting, vacuuming and other daily tasks assigned within shift.
- Fostering community and building relationships in our neighborhood and within the small business community.
- Leveraging social media to communicate store vibes and story sales.
- Communicating with customers and closing sales on Instagram.
- Styling mannequins, windows, and or creating looks / vignettes.

Assist with Inventory management, general restocking, and stock takes as needed or guided.

Assist in pricing vintage and branded goods as needed, including steaming and preparing items to be put on the floor.
- Researching items for pricing and references as needed.

Handling monies / cash, deposits, and creating change.

Learning and leveraing our POS system, slack, google.
- Packing and shipping orders via Shopify and communicating with customers online as needed.

Can use IOS systems, Google, and other online tools.

Eventually Open and close the store including handling cash deposits, running key reports, and communicating with the owner / manager.
Requirements:

Two shift minimum with weekend availability a must.

Previous retail experience is a must - you know what it takes to create a great retail experience.
- Strong sense of urgency. You don't wait to tackle tasks and begin.

Strong roll up your sleeves, "can do" - "add value" attitude. You ask "how can I help?"

Absolutely love vintage. Love fashion, style, textiles, history, art, culture, and are curious about intersection of history, fashion, and sustainability.
- You are a "figure it outer" meaning you can be resourceful and solve simple problems without needing heavy guidance.

Social Media aptitude! You can sell via story sales and are comfortable engaging with the community.

Punctual, dependable, and communicative with a high level of integrity, meaning you do what you will say you will do, with the ability to communicate your needs effectively.

Absolutely must be a people-person energized by a conversation with strangers, can work a room, and connect with others organically. Comfortable asking open-ended questions, breaking the ice, establishing trust, with strong, active listening skills and a high level of ease talking to all kinds of people.

Self-awareness and emotional intelligence. You are aware of your energy and how that translates to others, and you can anticipate customer needs.

Service forward. Have an innate desire to serve, meaning you enjoy helping others and naturally do it. This is intuitive and not taught - you go the extra distance out of joy, not because you have to.

Strong sense of aesthetics and personal style with a demonstrated interest and knowledge of culture, pop culture, vintage, art, fashion history, textiles design, fashion design and brand history.

Strong time management skills and the ability to self-direct and take initiative in tackling tasks and projects without being asked. Good at handling projects when we are slow (because there’s always something that can be done).

Organized with an attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize competing projects and tasks.

Technical needs: Solid level of the iOS operating system and use of an iPad and mobile technology.
- Handling money, counting money, and working with the general public.

Software and point of sale (POS) knowledge including working with LightSpeed or other a huge plus along with Slack, Google Drive, and other Google oriented software.

Can work pop-ups, outside, and comfortable setting up a booth and mobile selling if needed.
- Open to learning and can become confident with collections and products, including vintage denim, apothecary, jewelry, and small batch designers, to optimize sales through exceptional knowledge, communication, service, recommendations, and add-ons.
- No drama and no divas - this is vintage and we use grit to create beauty and appreciate the work and labor involved. We seek that same energy.

Sewing and mending skills a plus!

Ability to lift at least 30 lbs, lift boxes, climb stairs, handle textiles in large quantities prior to laundering, stand for periods of time, bend, lift, climb ladders, and work with rolling racks.
- Must be committed for more than 6 months.
Pay starts at $18 per hour depending on experience - once established and if a good fit up to $20.
